Steve Irwin was born on February 22, 1962. Ever since he was a child, he's had a facination with animals, reptiles in particular. This is mostly due to the fact that his father a herpetologist (the study of reptiles and amphibians). Steve Irwin was widely known for being an animal enthusiast, as well as for advocating for the preservation of animals. He is also known as "The Crocodile Hunter", which is because of his most popular show, The Crocodile Hunter. Irwin influenced others by exposing them to animals through his nature programs. Irwin was also involved in many campaigns, with one of them being the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service, which was established to help promote Australia's quarantine requirements. However, Irwin's work with animals came to an unfortunate stop when on September 4, 2006, Irwin was pierced through the heart by a stingray. Irwin once said "I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it." Steve Irwin died doing what he loved.
